What an adorable character--oh my God, THERE IS BLOOD EVERYWHERE!
"If you take Minecraft's art style and add in Grand Theft Auto's proclivity for causing as much blood and gore as possible, you'll get Paint the Town Red." This appropriately named game features you and a desire for bloodshed, murder, and mayhem.
This game lacks any semblance of a story, character growth, or deep moral choices. However, what it lacks in plot development it makes up in pure, unadulterated violence. The object of Paint the Town Red is simple: Kill the bad guys.
this one is an insane first-person shooter game. It is a first-person style game of death.
The art form here will look familiar to anyone who as ever played Minecraft. Its style is Voxel, so it has big, blocky pixels. There's a jarring disconnect here: You expect kid-like game-play, and instead get a lot of stabbings, smashing, and blood. However, that effect is unquestionably part of the game's charm.
Indeed, the Paint the Town Red takes standard tropes of violent games, like blood spray and gore, and smashes them into the game like its been done 1,000 times before. This uniqueness will have you blinking in confusion, and then smashing the button that allows you to bring a frying pan over the AIs head.
Furthermore, many facets of the environment are destructible: Punch something, and it shatters into an array of voxels. This adds a subtle effect and creates a sweet satisfaction in punching things.
The one is built around death and murder, and the game has that in spades. You use whatever you can to kill your opponents.
Indeed, perhaps one of the most interesting and fun aspects of Paint the Town Red is that everything is a weapon. Chair? Smash! Pool cue? Stab! Fence peace? BREAK AND SHIV! It's impressive just how creative this game gets when it comes to violence and bloodshed.
The Early Access version of the game only has limited maps and one mode (kill everything), but developers say more will be coming in the final product. That's a good thing. There is unquestionably something deeply cathartic about the mess and mayhem you can create when you punch a blocky bad guy to death.
Paint the Town Red is still in Early Access, meaning that developers are still working out some of the kinks in the system. In their Steam description, developers say that they hope to leave Early Access at some point in 2020. They note that the various new systems of the game have required them to take a great deal of time in development. In the meantime, you can download the game for $14.99.
Developers say that the final version will smooth out various bugs and kinks, while also introducing additional maps to the game.
It's hard to rate the replayability. With limited maps, the settings get old, fast. With additional maps and modes, the game will unquestionably excel. However, we have to rate what's available now, and as such, the game's features are lacking. Thankfully, the concept is solid, and more content will exponentially increase your ability to enjoy this game.
Paint the Town Red is an incredibly unique game that encourages violence and bloodshed in its charming and blocky format.
