Sally Face Review

Sally Face is a unique, point, and click adventure/horror game. It follows the adventures of a young boy, Sally. Sally has a prosthetic face and moves into a new apartment building with his Father.

The Blurred Lines Between The Real World and Nightmares

This game is a story-driven one. You play as Sally, a young boy with a prosthetic face and a tragic past. "In the game, you control Sally with your mouse, navigating him through reality and nightmares." Your goal is to navigate life, come to terms with a haunted past, and unravel a murder mystery in your new apartment complex.

The concept of the game is solid, if well-worn. However, the game's execution and unique plot really shine. Ask yourself: When was the last time you played a game where the main character had a prosthetic face and had to battle there way through living nightmares?

One of the best facets of this game is its characters. It doesn't just create a story, puzzles, or minigames. It also creates characters with uniques quirks and backstories. You grow to love them as you play on, and that might be the best element of this game.

Like A Comic Book from Hell

This game has that distinctive indie feel. Lines blur and pop, giving you the impression that you are looking at a bizarre, creepy comic book, or a rejected episode of an internet cartoon. Graphics jump and fade, and as a whole, the art style tends to vary, keeing you on your toes which helps add to the unsettling atmosphere of the world. This game seeks to frighten you and make you uncomfortable, and its graphics and overall aesthetics really help push this emotion.

The music is supplemental and atmospheric. Sadly there is no voice acting in this game, which is a shame, as its absence hinders the overall immersive nature of the game.

Point, Click, Recoil in Horror

Unlike most games, you spend the majority of your time moving sally with your mouse and the occasional click of your keyboard. Fortunately, the game does a good job of making it clear what you can and cannot click on, as all clickable items are clearly labeled. The controls are relatively intuitive, and this makes it a lot easier to play.

You can play the main game by clicking through and following the prompts—however, the game incentives need deeper exploration. Minigames, additional narrative, and dialogue are findable with a little bit of effort. This game doesn't offer anything new or exciting in the point and click genre, but it does a great job of maximizing this field's capabilities.

Story-driven games like this are great for many reasons, although replayability is not typically among them. Yes, you can play the game again to see what you missed and to try to get all of the achievements, and yes, the plot is interesting enough that it may hold your attention. However, for most gamers, this isn't enough of a reason to keep going.

TL/DR

A charming, creepy, and mysterious point-and-click adventure that leaves you in love with Sally and the ensemble cast in the game.
