NBA 2K20 offers a suite of features that you would expect out of a legend within the sports video game community.
A dazzling array of options allow you control over the league like never before
Its various modes can get bewildering, but it's apparent that the game's developers have learned from their long history and put together a package sure to satisfy even the most hardcore of players.
Learn the basics of the game, play a game and then just goes nuts with an almost bewildering series of possible options to explore and invest time into. There are a series of ways to play, including: MyCareer, in which you create and grind a player, turning him into the next Jordan. To do this, however, requires you to earn and spend Virtual Currency in ways that seem to require planning, forethought, and absolutely zero mistakes.
MyGM, assists players in creating and managing their own league that features up to 36 teams in a wholly rebuilt NBA.
MyLeague, operates like my GM, albeit with similar functions. You can also literally change the rules of the game and bring back historical teams.
MyTeam, in which you get into the granular details of team management, including training, rehabilitation, inter-team dynamics, and of course, playing.
The difficulty curve for new players can present a challenge, and if you've never played an NBA 2K game before, you might find yourself more than a little overwhelmed. However, for hardcore or returning players, the game is simply fantastic. There is no shortage of options to play with, and you can truly unleash your inner General Manager and NBA wannabe.
This is a triple-A game, the graphics demand detail and precision, and thankfully and unsurprisingly, NBA 2K20 excels. The game does a fantastic job of detailing every move. Players flow, jump and shoot with ease, and the frame-rate is excellent. The game is a graphical wonder.
The music selection also deserves praise, as the developers did a great job of selecting music that would complement the game and the league well. Furthermore, team commentary comes available as multiple commentators, and the announcers are hooked in well to the in-game action, calling out substitutes after breaks and timeouts.
There is no question about it: The game-play is fantastic. Players can certainly enjoy the simple joys of basketball, and there is nothing more satisfying than posturing that pesky defender who has been driving you bonkers all game.
...deep functionality is where game shines.
However, it's in the deep functions of basketball that the game truly shines. NBA 2K20 is best when it allows players to analyze their team, practice well-designed plays, and execute them with precision. The animation seems to customize to you and your play style, ensuring graphical fidelity that you would demand out of a series as legendary as NBA2K.
Any fast-paced sports game will be forced to balance the speed of action with the need to fully understand and act out complicated NBA features. Thankfully, NBA 2K20 has had decades to master this concept, and it does just that. Understanding some of these subsystems can be challenging (boxing out players can be a nightmare), it never feels unfair. Players are given a chance to succeed or fail in these actions based on their own merits.
The game is available on all major platforms (including Google's new Stadia), and a mobile port will be available at some point this year.
The game is very, very replayable. Its basic systems are a blast, and its various functions truly allow you to customize your team and league. While it is technically possible to get bored, it will take you a really long time to get there.
NBA 2K20 offers an array of options, superior game-play, and excellent graphics that will allow any player to excel.
What follows is the official description of NBA 2K20, from the developers.
