When Baldi's basics in education and learning first came out on itch.io, it looked like just another silly demo that wouldn't take off. As it turned out, that couldn't be further from the truth. The game was initially released in early 2018 for the Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms. And since its debut, Baldi's basics can now boast over one million direct downloads. Not bad for a game demo produced by the newbie developer, Micah McGonigal A.K.A mystman12. Baldi's basics is now available for mobile gamers on both android and iOS devices. And best of all, it's still free to play!
Baldi's basics in education and learning follow the principles of a survival horror game. Players must sneak through the hallways and rooms of the school, in search of seven hidden notebooks without being caught by Baldi. Easy peasy, right? Not so fast! There are several things along the way that will alert Baldi and surly lead to your untimely demise.
You might describe the game graphics and audio in Baldi's basics as gritty. That's not to say it's a bad thing. It plays rather nicely into the overall concept of the game. The in-game characters are crude renditions as if drawn by a toddler. Creepy! There is nothing special about the repetitive audio, only that it adds a certain stressfulness to the gameplay.
Players in Baldi's basics in education and learning use the standard WASD keys to navigate through the game. Of course, you use the mouse click to interact with things in the game. Click on doors to open, or items to pick them up. From time to time, you may find the need to run as fast as humanly possible! If that's the case, hold down the shift key to hightail it out of there. Hit the spacebar to glace behind you to see if you've lost whatever was chasing you. Don't Get Caught!
In conclusion, Baldi's basics may not be the ideal game for everyone. It is quite "basic," after all. That said, if you are looking to play a game that's not too serious, but will give you some thrills, Baldi's basics in education and learning will deliver.
What follows is the official description of Baldi's Basics in Education and Learning, from the developers.
Inspired by creepy/bad edutainment games from the 90s, (Sonic's Schoolhouse, I.M. Meen, 3D Dinosaur Adventure: Save the Dinosaurs), Baldi's Basics is a meta horror game that's really weird, with no real educational value to be found. Collect all 7 of the notebooks and escape the school, all while avoiding Baldi. Baldi has many friends in the school that will slow down your progress and put you at risk of being caught, so learn how each character works and how you can avoid their attention. Find and use items to your advantage. Oh, and finally, try not to get the quiz answers wrong... Each wrong answer makes Baldi angrier...
