F2P FTW

If you play games on PC, then you almost definitely have Steam. Many Steam games cost a pretty penny, but there are some gems in the store that you can get for free!

Check out these free-to-play games available on Steam right now.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, also called CS:GO, is an incredibly popular FPS that's held up for more than a decade. The premise is simple: there are two teams, Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists, each with five players. The Terrorists' goal is to plant a bomb and destroy the objective of a particular map. The Counter-Terrorists must hunt down the Terrorists and defuse the bomb. Kills and wins reward the player with cash, which they can use to purchase new guns.

Winning in CS:GO heavily depends on skill and teamwork. With the right people, this game is a blast.

Brawlhalla

Brawlhalla is a 2D platformer, comparable with Super Smash Bros. This fighting game is truly cross-platform, allowing for competition between players on PC, PS4, Xbox, and the Switch.

Choose from one of many fighters to play in a diverse set of game modes. 1v1 is only the beginning - in Brawlhalla, you can have up to eight people in a single match. The land one standing wins! And since the game is completely free, the outcome of PVP is based entirely on skill. There are no wallet warriors here!

You can play Brawlhalla locally, or online in ranked matches. With so many game modes and fighters to choose from, this game has hours of replay value.

Brawlhalla is now available on all platforms including iOS and Android. Play now by visiting brawlhalla.com/play.

Warframe

Warframe is an action-packed third-person RPG. It's set in a beautiful science fiction universe packed with story. Warframe boasts a wide arsenal of weapons, catering to many different play styles. Use guns, bows, hammers, swords, or axes. You can switch seamlessly between ranged and melee play.

With fast-paced combat, HD graphics, phenomenal lore, and a clean UI, it's no surprise that Warframe is lauded as one of the best free games on Steam.

Be sure to check out Wareframe's third open-world, Heart of Deimos, which is due to launch on all platforms August 25!

Destiny 2

If you like your sci-fi games with more shooter elements, then you should check out Destiny 2. Destiny 2 is a FPS and an MMO blended together, boasting PVE and PVP content. Good chunks of the game can be completed solo. However, engaging with multiplayer and joining a clan does play a significant role in some campaigns.

Destiny 2 also requires a heavy time commitment, especially if you want to PVP. If you don't mind a bit of a grind, then Destiny 2 is definitely worth checking out.

Beyond Light is Destiny 2's upcoming expansion, which is due to launch November 10, 2020.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links

Fans of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! will find nostalgic fun in this digital version of the card game. In Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links, players build decks and go head-to-head with other Duelists. Throughout the campaigns, these Duelists usually appear as NPCs or characters from the show. Once you feel confident, you can see how your deck holds up against other players.

When you begin a round, both sides start out with 4000 LP (hit points). As you summon monsters and attack, you slowly bring down your opponent's LP until someone wins. Collecting additional cards increases your power, and with it, your chances for victory.

Unfortunately, many of the Steam reviewers say that the best card to have is a credit card. However, the game still offers a lot of free fun.

Dota 2

You've probably heard of Dota 2. It's the second-most played game on Steam, right after CS:GO. Just in case you haven't heard about it: Dota 2 is a strategy-based MOBA absolutely full of action. One of the things that keeps people coming back is that, throughout its updates, the gameplay has remained balanced. The backbone of the game, such as the heroes you choose, become available without needing to pay real money.

There are hundreds of combinations of maps, heroes, and objectives. As a result, no two matches are the same.

World of Warships

Conquer the high seas in World of Warships, a combat-based MMO inspired by historic naval battles. Choose a country to fight for, and a ship to fight with. Each available ship falls into one of four categories: destroyers, cruisers, aircraft carriers, or battleships. Each has unique advantages, such as additional armor, speed, stealth, or a balanced mix of all three. You can even captain famous ships from WWI and WWII.

Embark with your chosen vessel into the heat of combat. Join a team in PVE content, or shake things up with PVP. But watch out for unexpected changes - like a storm at sea!

War Thunder

If you enjoy war games but feel marooned at sea, then you should try War Thunder. War Thunder doesn't stop at port - in addition to ships, its arsenal includes fighter jets, helicopters, tanks, heavy artillery, and thousands of vehicles. War Thunder seamlessly blends history into its game, dispensing real equipment and locations from the past - with explosions!

War Thunder supports a wide variety of consoles and game modes, including VR headsets. Play solo, or party up for cross-platform battles. Regular updates keep new content rolling in, so your squad can roll out.

SMITE

SMITE is a battleground for mythological marvels. Play as Zeus, Thor, Ganesha, Ra, Cthulhu, or any other god from ancient lore. Each god has their own playstyle, with unique skills, weapons, and ultimates. There are over a hundred gods to unlock and cycle through, so the player has a lot of options.

Once you've chosen a god, jump into a 5v5 or 3v3 deathmatch. There are six different game modes to choose from, but most of them will have you in team-based PVP. Defend your base, defeat the enemy, and smite with your godly powers!

Team Fortress 2

Team Fortress 2, also known as TF2, is a multiplayer FPS with a morbid sense of humor. This game is a meme, and it absolutely owns it.

Choose between nine different playable characters, each with different styles of obliterating the enemy team. If you feel sneaky, play a Spy. If you want to set things on fire, be the Pyro. If you prefer party support, then be a Medic. No matter what you choose, though, you're going to want a hat.

TF2 is outrageously fun, with frequent new releases to keep things fresh!
