Unfortunately, due to the ongoing app store battle between Apple and Epic Games, the latest update to Fortnite is not available on iOS or Mac. Furthermore, cross-play is no longer available between iOS and Mac and other platforms.
Fortnite is an online multiplayer game developed by Epic Games that released in July 2017. There are two editions available for the game: Battle Royale and Save the World. The Battle Royale edition is free to play and offers a massive library of downloadable content to enhance the experience. The game is available across several systems including Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.
Battle Royale has recently undergone a huge overhaul, leading to a retitle of the game as Fortnite Chapter 2. Though the game was largely overhauled through a few new additions and a great deal of vaulted content, much of what made the game a hit is still present in the new iteration.
If you're interested in Fortnite, it's almost certainly because of the Battle Royale mode. A relatively late addition to the game's development, it features players taking on ninety-nine other characters in an attempt to be the person standing on a deserted island. As the game has developed, you've gained the ability to take on other players as part of a two-person team or a small squad, but the basics remain the same.
The big change in Chapter 2 is the destruction of the old island and the replacement of an entirely new landscape. You'll notice a few familiar landmarks and some names that seem very similar, but this is basically an entirely new experience. Now you're not just fighting for the thrill of the hunt - virtually every action that you take earns you experience points. The game now very much prioritize doing things rather than hiding, making it a much more frantic experience than before.

It should be noted that the "Save The World" version of the game still exists in roughly the same state as when the game was launched. There was no dramatic overhaul of the players vs. Husk defense game, though there has been a roadmap that plans out where this version of the game is going. Save the World is still a pay-to-play game for the foreseeable future, and it's still one that uses many of the same building and shooting skills that have made the spinoff so much fun.
Fortnite employs a cartoonish style of graphics that are vibrant in color and theme. The graphics are powered by the Unreal Engine. The game supports 4K ultra high definition resolution for PC systems. Certain graphics can be tweaked on PC systems to meet gameplay needs. It is recommended to use a powerful graphics card for optimum display.
The shading, lighting, and particle effects bring the game to life to create a captivating and immersive experience. Players can chat with anyone from around the world through high-quality audio. The game offers many configuration options for the graphics and audio across all gaming systems, with new releases significantly upping the quality of both the visual and audio presentations.
A fair bit of what makes Chapter 2 so special isn't necessarily the gameplay elements that have been added, but rather what's been taken away. Yes, this new version does introduce fun gimmicks like being able to pick up fallen players and the ever-useful fishing pole, but what's more surprising is that it got rid of a lot of what's been added over the course of the last several years. Amazingly, Chapter 2 really seems to be much better for all the trimming that it's done.
Chapter 2 is very much a battle royale shooter at its best. You're still going to drop out of the familiar party bus, but once you're on the ground you'll absolutely find yourself in a world that's just a little more competitive than what you once found. There are no more vehicles, no more mechs, and for better or worse there are no fun little additions that help you zoom around the map or take out players from a position of relative safety. There's you, the cover you can find, and the cover you can make. It adds a real sense of tension that the game has been lacking for some time, especially if you've not yet memorized the new map.
Fortnite is an immersive game that really caters to the online gaming crowd, both through its excellent ability to stay relevant and its constantly-evolving game-play. Though the game itself has gone through a fairly huge update, most of what was at the core of the game hasn't changed. Those expecting something bigger from the Chapter 2 update might be disappointed, but those who wanted Fortnite to return to a leaner, more combat-focused version of itself are definitely going to be happy.
Fortnite remains a unique gaming experience, now leaner and more accessible than ever.
What follows is the official description of Fortnite, from the developers.
Fortnite, developed and published by Epic Games in 2017, is one of the most popular games in the world. It offers three different game modes for players: Fortnite Save the World, which is a co-op shooter and survival game where players have to fight zombie type creatures and build defences to survive. Next up, is the most popular mode, Fortnite Battle Royale. Battle Royale is a free-to-play battle royale action shooter where you play against 100 other players to see who is the last player standing. During the play, there is a storm that continuously shrinks the map making it more challenging and exciting as the gameplay area shrinks. Lastly, there is Fortnite Creative, where players can build their maps and battle areas.
Save the World is available only on Windows, Mac OS X, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.
Battle Royale is available across Windows, Mac OS X, Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.
