It's like the creators of Pokemon got a concussion and created an alternative world that addresses some of the beloved series' weaknesses.

Introduction

Temtem is an MMORPG that runs like an improved version of Pokemon. Players are Temtem tamers (not trainers, like Pokemon), and their job is to capture Temtems and then have those creatures battle against others. However, this game isn't a mere Pokemon clone, and in many ways, represents a significant improvement over the beloved series.

Concept

One of the game's biggest positives is its highly varied and complex setting. It takes place over six islands that are known collectively as the Airborne Archipelago. Each island has extremely different local characters and settings. One island is replete with tropical trees and volcanoes; another, water and sandy shores. Furthermore, each island then has its own customized NPCs and Temtems to capture, allowing you to truly experience the care and effort that went into this game. Indeed, even the NPCs tones change, depending on what island you are on.

Like all MMOs, there are quests that you can engage in. Thus far, the main storyline of Temtem is to fight back against the evil Clan Belsoto that is seeking to conquer the Airborne Archipelago.

Graphics and Audio

The game unquestionably put time and care into its graphics. Each island comes with its unique art and color style. Graphics feel soft and airy, and each Temtem has its unique flavor. There are sound effects and a soundtrack, but those are relatively standard fare as far as MMOs go.

Gameplay

As noted before, the game runs very similarly to Pokemon. In it, you capture Temtem creatures, then command those creatures in battles against other players or NPCs.

Of course, the real thrill of Temtem is capturing Temtems and battling others. The Battle System itself is far more advanced than anything you ever played in Pokemon. It's not just a matter of selecting the right Temtem to fight; instead, you have to get an in-depth feel for the strengths, weaknesses, and synergies of your Temtem team.

The more you play, the better you get, as your understanding of this battle system and your opponents grows. There are other factors to consider as well, as your stamina bar (and that of your opponent) plays an essential factor when it comes to offense and defense.

Of course, the real thrill of Temtem is not battling NPCs, but playing against other people. In Temtem, you have the chance to fight others and interact with live people from across the world. You are given a variety of options to customize and personalize your tamer, ensuring that your character represents you and your personality. Players have a wide array of possibilities in Temtem, including joining groups and clans that are dedicating to leveling up or playing the game's main quest.

As noted above, each island is different, and a wide array of sidequests reflect that. These sidequests allow you to explore various facets of the game, and like all good MMOs, enabling you to collect loot and level up.

Conclusion

Temtem is currently in Early Access and available on Steam for $34.99.

There's no question that the game is still in early access; activities are somewhat limited, and this does damage the game's replayability. "There is also no question that the seeds for a fantastic game are present." However, even with Early Access, the game has an excellent array of features that will keep you busy for hours. With additional updates, this game will come with a wide variety of features that players will be able to lose themselves in.

TL/DR

This game sometimes players like an alternative universe Pokemon but stands on its own two legs, allowing players to capture Temtems and explore a uniquely crafted world.
